The Strawberry & Passion Fruit Cultivation and Value Chain Development Project in Idukki District is designed to foster sustainable farming practices, establish a robust value chain, and integrate farm tourism for economic diversification and community development. Situated in the picturesque village of Kanthalloor, known for its diverse tropical crops and untouched natural beauty, the project aims to capitalize on the salubrious climate and create a unique agricultural experience for tourists.

Location:

Kanthalloor, nestled in the Eastern side of the Western Ghats in Kerala, boasts a variety of crops, including strawberries, passion fruits, apples, oranges, and more. At an elevation of 5000 ft above sea level, it provides an ideal climate for natural farming. The village’s untouched charm, dense fog, and sublime mist make it an attractive destination for nature lovers and photographers.

Project Objectives:

1. Development of Farms: Implement modern and sustainable farming practices to optimize the yield, enhance fruit quality, and ensure resilience for successful cultivation of strawberries and passion fruits.
2. Value Chain Development: Establish a robust value chain by collaborating with selected farmers, setting standards for harvesting, processing, packaging, and marketing of fresh strawberries and passion fruits to enhance overall product quality and market competitiveness.
3. Farm Tourism Integration: Introduce engaging farm tourism activities, providing visitors with an immersive experience of fruit cultivation, harvesting, and processing, thereby contributing to local tourism and fostering economic development.
4. Grading and Marketing: Implement efficient grading processes and strategic marketing initiatives to ensure the successful positioning and promotion of strawberries and passion fruits in the market, enhancing their competitiveness and market share.

IISAC is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization of IRS of USA ,registered in New Jersey, USA in 1998 to facilitate international education with US universities through the semester India, faculty-led and other short term study programs. The lofty goal of IISAC is to groom and mould a generation of young adults with international perspective, reverence to the planet earth and protection of its inhabitants.

ISAC’s International Scientific Seminar Program at SB College, Changanasherry, Kerala, India.

As a part of IISAC’s academic bridging and scientific cooperation programs , the vice chairman of IISAC conducted an international seminar at SB College on October 24, 2023.

This seminar was from the cutting-edge medical research field of stem cell technology and tissue engineering.

More than 300 life science students, research scholars, and close to 30 faculty members participated in this three-hour seminar, which was provided by Prof. Dr Sunny Luke based on his 30 years of research in biomedicine with various prestigious medical institutions in New York.
